It Started With One Simple Observation
Over the years, we met hundreds of active children with heel pain.
Many had already seen other health professionals.
Many had been told to stop playing sport.
Many had tried stretching, exercises, heel cups, taping or massage.
The pain would often settle with rest...
...only to return as soon as they became active again.
The more families we met, the more one question kept coming back to us.
Could there be another way of thinking about children's heel pain?
Why The Severs Centre Exists
Rest The Heel. Not The Child.
For many active children, stopping sport isn't just disappointing - it's missing out on the things they love most.
Rather than asking how we could simply keep children out of sport, we began asking a different question.
Could we reduce the repeated impact and pressure going through the heel while keeping children active where appropriate?
That simple question continues to shape everything we do at The Severs Centre today.
It's the philosophy behind every assessment, every conversation and every recommendation we make.
Discovering Solemaids
As we searched for approaches that aligned with this philosophy, we discovered Solemaids®, developed in Denmark.
What stood out wasn't simply the product itself.
It was the thinking behind it.
Rather than functioning like a traditional heel cup or flat shoe insert, Solemaids® were designed with the aim of creating a small clearance beneath part of the heel, helping reduce repeated impact and pressure beneath the painful area.
It closely aligned with the philosophy that had already begun shaping our own approach to managing recurring heel pain in active children.
Where appropriate following an individual assessment, Solemaids® may form an important part of a child's management plan.
Today
Today, The Severs Centre is a growing network of clinics dedicated to helping active children with recurring heel pain.
Every child who visits us receives an individual assessment because no two children are exactly the same.
Our role is to understand your child's symptoms, answer your questions and recommend the most appropriate management approach based on their individual presentation.
Because for us, it's never been about simply fitting an insole.
It's about helping families understand what's happening, exploring the available options, and supporting children to get back to doing what they love wherever appropriate.
